Elias Demetriou was born in Cyprus and studied cinema in Athens. He has directed one theatre play, seven short films, approximately thirty documentaries, and two feature films (Fish n’ Chips, 2012 – Hellenic Film Academy Award for Best First Film, and Smac, 2015 – Hellenic Film Academy Award for Best Actress). In addition to directing, he has worked as a screenwriter and film editor on more than fifty short films and documentaries. He taught Filmmaking Techniques at the Department of Film Studies at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (2009-2010) and Cinema for young actors at the New Greek Theatre (2012-2019). Since 2016, he has been working for ERT S.A. as the Curator of the Microfilm Program, financing fifteen short films per year. He has collaborated with the Mediterranean Film Institute (MFI) as an assistant trainer to Jan Fleischer (2018-2023). Since 2023, he has been working as a script consultant for the same organization. He is currently in post-production for his third feature film Maricel.   [ • 2025 ]
